Inspiring a Lifelong Love of Reading

Grenada Reads is an exciting literacy program designed to ignite a passion for reading and language in children across Grenada and the rest of the world.  A collaboration between The Earth Guardian Series, Mt. Parnassus Plantation, Grenadian Published Authors Inc. and Grenada Agro Tourism this initiative aims to foster a love of reading in our children and adults alike.

At the heart of this initiative is the belief that reading is not just a skill but a gateway to discovery, creativity and lifelong learning.  Through Grenada Reads we aim to nurture young minds by providing them with the tools and inspiration to develop strong literacy skills while fostering a deep love for books and stories.

Grenada Reads encourages children to explore the wonders of reading, from vibrant local tales to exciting adventures that transport them to new worlds.  By engaging with stories children will enhance their vocabulary, comprehension and communication abilities—skills that will serve them throughout their academic journey and beyond.  At Grenada Reads we believe that every child has the potential to become a confident reader and through this initiative, we hope to create a community of readers who not only excel in language but also develop a lasting appreciation for the magic of stories.

Mt. Parnassus Plantation & The Earth Guardian Series Unite for a Greener Future!

Exciting news, young Earth Guardians! The Earth Guardian Series is teaming up with Mt. Parnassus Plantation, one of Grenada’s most treasured cocoa farms to show how we can protect the planet while enjoying the gifts of nature!

What’s this all about?
At Mt. Parnassus Plantation, farmers grow rich, flavorful cocoa using sustainable practices that keep the land healthy, the air fresh, and the soil full of life! And guess what? That’s exactly what the Earth Guardian Series is all about—helping YOU learn how to be a hero for the planet every single day!

Meet the Earth Guardian Series!
Created by Dr. Efua Akoma and her daughter, Zumbi Akoma, these books show that kids have the power to protect the earth!

Book 1: “Save the Bees”

Follow Zumbee, a worker bee and her friends who learn how important bees are to our world! They discover how small changes, like planting flowers and growing your own garden while avoiding harmful pesticides, can help save these tiny pollinators. Because bees help us create food, we need to make sure we do what we can to make sure they are safe, and our bellies stay full!

Book 2: “Brave Beach Turtles”

Have you ever seen a 2000-pound leatherback sea turtle? They are real and they are in trouble. Learn about these majestic marine reptiles, their babies, and how to help them survive. They’ve been around since the dinosaurs, and we want to make sure they are around for a lot longer.

Join Zumbee in Grenada with Teri the Turtle as they investigate why these beautiful animals are endangered and what the Earth Guardians can do to make positive changes and save the turtles!

Here is another special treat! Join Zumbi as she interviews Tyler from Ocean Spirits, a non-profit group that engages in conservation efforts with the Leatherback turtles as they migrate to nest on the shores of Levera Beach in Grenada. Book 3: “Tokala’s Melting Homes”

Travel to Canada where the arctic foxes live with Zumbee as she learns about them and how climate change is melting their homes. Arctic Foxes are small, cute animals with fluffy white fur that helps them stay warm in the cold Arctic. When see arrives, she meets Tokala and his family and friends. They teach her about global warming. When the earth gets too warm, the snow starts to melt, and the Arctic foxes’ homes begin to disappear. Without enough snow, they can’t build their dens to stay safe and warm. Join Zumbee and Tokala as they discover ways to fight global warming and save the Arctic foxes and their homes.
