On our tour you would be fully immersed in our island’s rich agricultural heritage, learn about the production processes, enjoy hands-on experiences, tastings and interactions that highlight the culture, history and flavors of Pure Grenada: The Spice of the Caribbean.
Speak directly with the local cocoa and spice farmers, learning about their farming methods, challenges, and the importance of the crops to the culture, community and local economy.
Walk through the cocoa fields: Stroll through the plantation to see cocoa trees growing in their natural environment.
Observe cocoa pods in different stages: Learn about the life cycle of the cocoa plant, from seedling to mature tree bearing ripe pods.
See traditional harvesting techniques: Watch our cocoa farmers carefully harvest the pods from the trees using machetes or a “cocoa knife”. This is seasonal based on the time of year you visit our plantation.
Fermentation process: Learn how freshly harvested cocoa beans are placed in our fermentation box and how the fermentation process enhances the flavor of the beans to produce Fine Flavour Grenada Cocoa.
Drying cocoa beans: See the cocoa drying process, where cocoa beans are spread out in the sun to dry before they’re ready for the next stages of processing.
Roasting demonstration: Watch how the beans are roasted to bring out their rich cocoa flavor and learn about different roasting techniques.
Grind cocoa beans: Learn how roasted cocoa beans are ground into cocoa mass using traditional tools.
See the cocoa ball making process: Discover how cocoa mass is processed into a cocoa ball combined with other ingredients such as Grenada Nutmeg, West Indian Bay leaf and True Cinnamon (Ceylon Cinnamon).
Walk through our Grenada spice garden: Explore the plantation’s spice gardens where nutmeg, cinnamon, West Indian Bay Leaf, mauby, sapote or mammy sapote, bois bandé cloves, vanilla, ginger, turmeric, cardamom and other spices grow.
Learn about spice cultivation: Hear about how each spice is grown, harvested, and processed, and discover their uses in Grenadian cuisine, health and wellness and everyday living.
